The 'English Guitar' is a nine string instrument that achieved great popularity for everyday entertainment between the middle ages and the Restoration.
Two types are available, both based on a mediaeval style with a back, neck and head made from one piece of sycamore. Each follows a simple design with Italian tuning, a wire fretted fingerboard and traditional carved roses.
Try one of our new models incorporating modern machine heads enabling quicker, easier tuning, ideal for beginners or anyone requiring regular practice.

Three string mediaeval fiddle often found in pictures and carvings, played by angels. Crafted in a combination of uncoloured sycamore, box, spruce and fruit woods.
To achieve the distinctive sound, each instrument is hollowed out from a single, solid piece of wood using traditional tools and strung with sheep gut.
Equal care is taken with the aesthetic appeal and historical accuracy of the finish. Wax is applied on the body and egg white to the belly achieving an authentic, practical and acoustically good surface.
Rebecs crafted by the Green Carpenter have been played at many mediaeval music events including the V&A's 2004 Gothic Exhibition.

WOODEN TRUMPETS |

Recently developed as part of a large project based on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Prototype is in B and sounds far louder than you think it should! Gawain twice mentions the "cracking of trumpets", and this really does. Based on various contemporary pictures and carvings.
